Many Managers should use the AT&T surplus bridging and re hire rules before hiring me, a Recruiter, when surplussed from AT&T.
Because you may find it better to stay at AT&T and bridge your Mod-75 before completely severing your relationship from AT&T.
As we have stated in past AT&T Pension articles, It is important to hit your Mod-75 when leaving AT&T . The Mod-75 gives you immediate pension benefits and health care. Read your AT&T SPD and speak with a financial adviser for more details. To reach Mod-75 you need age and service must equal 75, and you must be a minimum of 50 years old . There is one exception — you qualify for retiree benefits when you have 30 years of net credited service at any age.
Net credited service, in regards to pensions, is calculated down to the very DAY so be sure you are aware of your exact NCS date.
The best option to consider is to find another job at AT&T in "any" AT&T department to bridge your service until you reach Mod-75.
As AT&T states in their documents
"If you incurred an AT&T Surplus, MGMT Termination of Employment due to a layoff or involuntary reduction in work force, and you are rehired within two (2) years after your Termination of Employment, the absence will not be a break in service. "
AT&T SPD Summarized
This is important enough to restate. If you come back within two (2) years there will be "no" break in service.
In addition, AT&T also states that the following rules apply:
" If you are re-employed... Then... Following a period of absence of six (6) months or less in any 12-month period THEN
AT&T SPD
Your Term of Employment will include that period of absence.
What? You mean my absence is included in my years of service. That is what AT&T is stating and you need to check with HR to confirm.
This is great and come back before 12 months and the absence in included.
What if the absence is longer than 12 months the absence is NOT included. You still can come back to AT&T and obtain your Mod-75. But how?
As AT&T states.
"Following a break in service of more than six (6) months in any 12-month period
Your Term of Employment will not include that period of absence.
If you have more than one absence during a 12-month period and the total absences are greater than six (6) months
You will not receive credit for the final period of absence that takes the total over six (6) months or any subsequent leaves within the twelve (12) month period, until you have been re-employed for twelve (12) months.
